Beta terms

Terms of Service

The rules for using Tale Ledger’s local application, optional account, player presentation, and hosted services during the controlled beta.

Beta notice. Tale Ledger is still being tested. Features, allowances, and service availability may change before a commercial release.

Agreement and eligibility

These terms are an agreement between you and Allen Ross, the operator of Tale Ledger. By creating a Tale Ledger account or using an optional hosted service, you agree to them. If you do not agree, continue using the local application without an account and do not use hosted services.

Hosted accounts are intended for adults who can enter a binding agreement. You may use Tale Ledger on behalf of an organization only if you have authority to bind it.

Local-first software

Tale Ledger is a campaign-management tool, not a virtual tabletop, emergency service, archival guarantee, or substitute for maintaining your own backups. Your desktop workspace remains the authoritative campaign database. Local planning, backups, imports, exports, player hosting, and bring-your-own-key AI remain available without a Tale Ledger account.

You receive a personal, limited, revocable, non-transferable license to use beta builds provided to you. You may not sell, redistribute, reverse engineer for abuse, or use the service to defeat security or usage controls except where applicable law expressly permits otherwise.

Accounts and security

You are responsible for access to your email account, your authorized devices, and activity performed through your Tale Ledger account. Provide accurate information, protect sign-in codes, revoke devices you no longer control, and notify Tale Ledger promptly of suspected compromise.

Tale Ledger may rate-limit, suspend, or revoke hosted-service access to protect users, control costs, respond to abuse, or comply with law. Suspension of hosted services does not erase or disable your local campaign workspace.

Your content and permissions

You retain the rights you hold in content you create or upload. You represent that you have the rights and permissions needed to use it. When you deliberately use a hosted feature, you grant Tale Ledger the limited permission needed to receive, store, transform, scan, review, reproduce, and deliver that content to operate and secure the requested service.

This operational permission ends when the content is deleted, subject to reasonable processing time, safety records, blocked-content hashes, legal preservation duties, backups, and other requirements described in the Privacy and Hosted Content policies.

AI-assisted features

AI output can be incomplete, inaccurate, unbalanced, or similar to other material. You remain responsible for reviewing output before relying on, publishing, or sharing it. Tale Ledger does not promise ownership, exclusivity, copyright protection, rules accuracy, or suitability of AI output.

Bring-your-own-key requests are governed by your relationship with the AI provider. Future included AI will also be subject to account allowances, server-side controls, and provider terms disclosed before launch.

Paid plans, renewal, and refunds

Optional Vault and Studio plans renew monthly at the price shown before checkout until canceled. Paddle acts as merchant of record and handles payment collection, applicable taxes, receipts, and approved refunds. Hosted allowances are finite and shown in Tale Ledger; they are not represented as unlimited.

You may cancel renewal from the Account page in the desktop application. Cancellation normally takes effect at the end of the current paid period. Refund requests are governed by the Refund Policy and any mandatory rights that apply where you live.

Beta availability and third parties

Hosted services may be interrupted, changed, limited, or discontinued. Tale Ledger relies on third-party infrastructure for hosting, storage, email, AI, and network delivery. External links and services are governed by their own terms.

The beta is provided on an “as available” basis to the fullest extent permitted by law, without a promise that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or appropriate for every purpose.

Responsibility and limits

You are responsible for lawful use, campaign backups, content you share, and decisions made using generated material. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Tale Ledger is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive losses arising from the beta. Applicable law may provide rights that cannot be waived; nothing here limits those rights.

Changes and ending use

You may stop using hosted services, export available account metadata, and request account deletion from the application. Tale Ledger may update these terms as the product develops. Material changes will be posted with a new effective date and, when practical, communicated to active beta users.
